Whip It

This movie has horrible reviews. My favorite was "The movie was a tough sell, given its genre mix and focus on the niche sport of roller skating." BoxOfficeMojo

#1 it's roller derby, pretty sure roller skating isn't much of a sport. I don't like chick flicks in general but I enjoyed this one. It had a great message, and it was filmed in Austin so that gave it brownie points right off the bat. The cast was amazing, Alia Shawkat (cousin Maebe from Arrested Development), Kristen Wiig, Zoe Bell, Eve, Juliette Lewis, Andrew Wilson, Daniel Stern, and of course Drew Barrymore. Ellen Paige annoys the crap out of me but she managed to win me over in this one. I know many people write this one off immediately but give it a chance. Trust me.

And here's TXRD (the league the movie is set around.) I've been to a couple of bouts. They are intense and very entertaining. Definitely worth checking out.
