sxsw 2010

It's that time of year again when the smelly hipster population of Austin grows by tenfold. Yes, South by Southwest. While the music scene is filled with up-and-coming indie bands that makes my roommate giggle with excitement, not me. I have the musical taste of an old man. I might check out a few Texas country or folk bands but I'm not one to stand in line for hours just to hear Girltalk or the latest Dubstep. What I do get excited about, however, are the movies. I was surprised to see how many good ones are going to be in town this year.

Here's a quick rundown of my top five picks with trailers.

Kick-Ass -
Kids that dress-up and actually fight crime plus Nic Cage as Big Daddy, how can you fail with that?

Leaves of Grass -
Edward Norton plays an uptight business man and his pot-head brother.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil -
This one is a slasher flick from the dumb hillbillies perspective. It deserves some credit for originality.

Barry Munday -
A guy loses his balls to find out he fathered a child before the accident. Comedy with a little heart tucked in there.

Winter's Bone -
An unflinching Ozark Mountain girl hacks through dangerous social terrain as she hunts down her drug-dealing father while trying to keep her family intact. (Stole that from imdb)

The documentaries are always worth checking out as well. It really depends on which ones catch your interest.
